HSR Historic Stock Cars Shine in the Spotlight on NASCAR Weekend at Watkins Glen

Scott Holley Wins Inaugural HSR Historic Stock Cars at The Glen Doubleheader Saturday in ex-Penske Racing/Miller Lite 2004 No. 2 Dodge Charger

WATKINS GLEN, New York (August 26, 2023) – Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic Stock Cars shined in the big spotlight on a major NASCAR weekend last Saturday at Watkins Glen International where Scott Holley won the Inaugural HSR Historic Stock Cars at The Glen Doubleheader in his ex-Penske Racing/Miller Lite 2004 No. 2 Dodge Charger.

The “twin-stage” doubleheader marked the first time HSR has run as a support series on a full weekend of top-tier NASCAR stock car competition and a full field of pristinely restored stock cars, former NASCAR race winners and stout lineup of today’s top historic stock car drivers turned out for the occasion.

The twilight race began with a opening 25-minute round before at stage break paved the way for a final 20-minute dash to the checkered flag.

Former NASCAR star “Front Row” Joe Nemechek lived up to his well-deserved nickname and led the first six laps of the race from the pole in his NEMCO Motorsports 2007 No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado.

Nemechek was the first of three different drivers to lead the race but dropped from the top spot with apparent mechanical issues on Lap 7.

Holley took the lead as the race developed into a battle for the victory between his “Blue Deuce” and Patrick Womack in his FedEx 2014 No. 11 Toyota Camry campaigned in its prime by Joe Gibbs Racing.
